Islam and Christianity: A Comparison in Soteriology

Image
Islam and Christianity: A Comparison in Soteriology             Soteriology can be defined as the doctrine of salvation or the saving of human beings from sin and its consequences. Christianity teaches that the incarnation and death of Jesus Christ formed the climax of a divine plan for humanity's salvation. This plan was conceived by God willingly before the creation of the world, achieved at the cross, and it would be completed at the Last Judgment, when the Second Coming of Christ would mark the catastrophic end of the world and the creation of a new world. For Christianity, salvation is only possible through Jesus Christ. Christians believe that Jesus' death on the cross was the once-for-all perfect sacrifice that atoned for the sin of humanity – vicarious atonement. This can be seen in Hebrews 9:22-26, “In fact, the law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness…But he has appeared once for all at the

Overview of Athari Metaphysics

Image
Overview of Athari Metaphysics Metaphysics, the study of the fundamental nature of reality and existence, presents significant challenges and complexities. Within the realm of metaphysics, the Athari, a school of thought in Sunni Islam, perspective offers a unique approach to understanding the attributes and actions ascribed to Allah, or God. This overview explores the fundamental principles of their (and also my) metaphysics, including the distinction between the different types of predications when describing God’s attributes. It also considers the role of rational arguments alongside textual proofs for the existence of God and questions the concept of Divine Simplicity. Additionally, the overview delves into the uncreated nature of the Quran and the understanding of God's actions within His essence. By examining Athari metaphysics, we gain insights into the nuanced interpretation of divine attributes and deepen our understanding of God’s unknowable essence. The Athari view d

Laws of Logic

Laws of Logic Logic relies on fundamental principles known as the three classical laws of thought: the law of identity, the law of excluded middle, and the law of non-contradiction. Together, these laws lay the groundwork for reasoning and logical analysis such that philosophy, mathematics, and everyday conversation could not stand without them. In this blog post, we will delve into these three rules that govern rational discourse.   1. Law of Identity: The law of identity states that every object is necessarily identical to itself. For example, if we have a statement A, then A is true if and only if A is true. It can be represented as "A = A".   2. Law of Excluded Middle: The law of excluded middle states that for any proposition A, either A is true, or its negation is true as there is necessarily no middle ground or third option. In simpler terms, a proposition is either true or false, and there is no other possibility. This principle can be expressed as "A ∨ ¬A"

The Quran and the Trinity

Image
The Quran and the Trinity             Christian polemics are quick to point out the Quran’s representation of the Trinity to prove that Islam is a false religion. They claim that the Quran misrepresents the doctrine of the Trinity as a form of polytheism or that the Quran includes Mary as a person in the Trinity which is also incorrect. It will be shown that the charges of the polemics are completely false.        The Quranic verse that discusses the Trinity is:      “O People of the Book! Do not go to extremes regarding your faith; say nothing about Allah except the truth. The Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary, was no more than a messenger of Allah and the fulfilment of His Word through Mary and a spirit from Him. So believe in Allah and His messengers and do not say, ‘Three.’ Stop!—for your own good. Allah is only One God. Glory be to Him! He is far above having a son! To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. And Allah is sufficient as a Trustee of Affairs.”
